Isselt is located on the river and near the center of Amersfoort, the central station and the Eemplein. The Amsterdamseweg was constructed between 1952 and 1962, the start of the route from Amersfoort to Amsterdam. This follows for a small part the old route of the Isseltseweg. The area north of this up to the municipal boundary in the northeast was developed in the 1960s and 1970s into Amersfoort’s first industrial estate. Production companies, car dealers, wholesalers and distribution companies mainly settled here. Due to the good accessibility of the city, the municipality was now also able to attract more and more industries, so that the area west of the city in particular underwent tremendous development. Factories and companies established themselves at the harbor on the Eem just outside the Koppelpoort and along the railway.
